Which sites do AI assistants cite when they answer? Six practical steps to prepare your website for ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI search.
People no longer ask only Google; they also ask AI assistants such as ChatGPT and Gemini: “Which companies do web design in Samsun?” These assistants build their answers from content on the web. For your site to appear there, machines must be able to understand it easily.
1. Say who you are in the first paragraph
The first sentences of your home page should state what you do, where you are and whom you serve. Fancy slogans are nice for people, but a language model is looking for the answer to “what does this company do?”.
2. Write content as questions and answers
A FAQ section is the favourite content type of AI search. Use the questions your customers really ask as headings and give clear answers in paragraphs.
3. Add structured data
Schema.org markup (Organization, LocalBusiness, FAQPage, Article) labels the facts on your site: address, services, founding year, brands. Search engines and AI crawlers read these labels directly.
4. Fast, clean HTML
Most crawler bots do not run JavaScript. Your main text should be present as plain HTML in the page source, with a proper heading hierarchy (h1, h2, h3).
5. Prepare an llms.txt file
An llms.txt file in the root of your site gives AI tools a summary of your company, services and key pages in one place. It is not a standard yet, but it is easy to prepare and harmless.
6. Be mentioned elsewhere
Assistants do not rely on a single source. Consistent mentions of your name, address and services on your Google Business Profile, industry directories, news sites and client pages increase your credibility.
At TMC Web we deliver new websites that meet these six steps. If you would like us to review your current site, just write to us.
